Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling will have earned a Germany recall for the 2014 World Cup if he produces another top-scoring season in the Bundesliga, according to legend Rudi Voeller.

Despite finishing as the German league's top scorer last season with 25 goals in 34 games, Kiessling made his last appearance for Germany at the 2010 World Cup.

Head coach Joachim Loew has continually overlooked the Leverkusen hot-shot, preferring Fiorentina's Mario Gomez or Lazio's Miroslav Klose as a lone striker.

But Voeller, Leverkusen's director of sport, has said another goal-filled season by Kiessling will make him hard to ignore ahead of the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

"If he plays another season like the last one, then it will be hard for Jogi Loew to look past him," former Germany midfield star Voeller told Munich newspaper the Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

Kiessling won the last of his six caps in the 3-2 win over Uruguay in the third-place play-off at the 2010 World Cup and has yet to score for the national team.

Voeller admits there is "extreme" competition for places in the Germany squad with Loew's attacking midfield packed with options.

Kiessling has not been included in Loew's squad for Wednesday's international friendly against Paraguay in Kaiserslautern.

Leverkusen, who are back in the Champions League this season, agreed a contract extension with Kiessling in July which keeps him at the Werkself until 2017.

Leverkusen host Freiburg in their opening Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday.
