'Chicharito' in strong Mexico Gold Cup squad

Mexico on Friday named striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Real Sociedad star Carlos Vela and Watford fullback Miguel Layun in a strong 23-man squad for next month's Gold Cup.
Coach Miguel Herrera announced the squad the same night that a different roster -- seen as a B-team -- was playing Bolivia in the Copa America tournament in Chile, which ends July 4.
Herrera saved his biggest stars for the July 7-July 26 Gold Cup, which is hosted by defending champions the USA and is the marquee tournament of the Confederation of the North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF).
Eleven of the players picked for the Gold Cup ply their trade in Europe, including PSV Eindhoven playmaker Andres Guardado and Villarreal's Giovani dos Santos.
Striker Hernandez faces an uncertain summer having been on loan at Real Madrid from Manchester United.
Mexico have won six of the previous 12 Gold Cups and are in Group C with Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Guatemala.
