The Uruguayan government on Thursday called a four month worldwide ban on footballer Luis Suarez for biting "disproportionate."

"This disproportionate sanction hurts us," said Sports Ministere Liliam Kechichian in a Twitter statement.

The minister said she would meet President Jose Mujica to discuss a followup to the FIFA action against Suarez who bit an Italian opponent in their final World Cup group game.
